This list is by no means complete, authoritative, or exclusive. It represents a sample of sugestions that I personally feel have merit and would like to suggest as reading options for any who are not already familiar with them. The groupings are not exclusive to each other as several of the ‘books for toddlers’ will appeal and have value beyond the early years and there are toddlers who will apreciate many of the books listed for older children. In fact, I have before read the Elephant and Piggie stories with toddlers, just as story books rather than early reader texts. It is important for parents and teachers alike to remember that the best thing we can do to foster the development of reading and literacy in our children is to read to them often and demonstrate our love for stories through our example and enthusiasm. – Chris Holzer, Center Director
